The DPAs of Africa will gather for a Roundtable, and will engage with identity authorities to share their best practices on Data Protection Impact Assessments
WPF is chairing a full day workshop at ID4Africa's 2025 AGM focused on hearing the voices of African data protection authorities regarding identity systems and Data Protection Impact Assessments. For the first session of the workshop, the data protection authorities of Africa will gather in a roundtable and provide a status update on identity systems in their country. For the second session, identity authorities and other government stakeholders will gather for an in-depth session on Data Protection Impact Assessments in the African context, hearing about best practices from the DPAs and engaging in discussion about challenging use cases.
This is the second gathering of African DPAs at ID4Africa. The first roundtable was in 2019, when there were only a handful of DPAs in Africa. For this workshop, 30+ countries will be represented during the day's events. WPF's Pam Dixon was the rapporteur for the 2019 event; the report is available here. This year, Dixon is chairing the event, which is also longer and will allow for coverage of critically important topics.
