Online Job Seekers, Still Beware of Scams!
Today the Augusta Chronicle published a story by Jenna Martin quoting World Privacy Forum’s Pam Dixon about job seekers and how important it is for them to be wary of online job scams. “I am concerned that we are still seeing serious cases of people being victimized by scammers while they are looking for work online,” said Pam Dixon. “There are some key safety tips every job seeker should know about as part of basic online job search training.”
WPF has numerous tips for consumers about job searching. Some of the key tips for avoiding job scams include:
1. Never give personal bank account, PayPal, or credit card numbers to an employer you are just interviewing with.
2. Never agree to have funds or paychecks direct deposited to any of your accounts by a new or untested employer.
3. Never forward, transfer, or “wire” money to an employer.
4. Do not transfer money and retain a portion for payment as salary for your job.
