WPF testifies at FTC facial recognition hearing

Facial recognition — Pam Dixon of WPF testified at the FTC’s Facial Recognition workshop, speaking on a panel about the policy implications of facial recognition technology. The World Privacy Forum’s report on Digital Signage was mentioned several times at the hearing, as were the collaborative consumer protection principles the WPF led. In her comments, which are available in the FTC’s transcript of the hearing panel, Dixon noted that opting out of facial recognition technologies by simply walking away from them was not a solution. “The walkout opt out is just not credible in an environment of ubiquitous collection.
